holy toledo, luella!.

Luellalovelies

do you remember when luella first came around? i do. i first saw her in jane magazine way back when the magazine was first new, and in my opinion just bearble. i was still mourning the loss of sassy magazine. oh, sassy...

Meaowzzzer_2

anyhoo, there was an editiorial page on the new beaded belt she had made. it was all the rage. just a macrame belt w/ plastic beads woven into it...remember that? it also talked about her style and how jealous the editor was of the young student's style. luella had on luis vuitton damier covered booties, black tights a ripped small mini and a green top and of course her new belt. (i can't believe i remember this whole outfit...but i have to tell you, i remember outfits like they're my old friends. no lie.)

Onetwohotties

well, it's so amazing to see how far she has come. i'm loving her new spring line just shown at london fashion week, she had previously shown in nyc for the past 5 yrs. the spring/summer '08 line takes cues from punk, batman and robin, rock-a-billy and enid from ghost world. (those black glasses on the models personally remind me of my new favorite doyenne.) such an array sounds a bit of a mess, but she pulled it off! everything is so cute and colorful and fun. i would kill for the liberty print raincoat. i love the patterns paired w/ the yellow accessories and cat tees. there were quite a few little purses over the shoulder (been spotting these everywhere and am actively looking for one at thrift stores and on ebay). oh and the shoes and boots! omg. so hot. i love all the variations. oh luella. you are so great.

here's a video from the telegraph in london. it's very short, but you get to see the show in action. there are a couple snips of her talking, but not enough. i would have loved to have heard more...but this will satiate for now.

a neat and compact little package

I will never again complain about the difficult and uncomfortable things that come with having a baby on board.Ok, maybe not never but I will definitely have a different perspective from now on. This week has been plum full of lessons to be learned. Kindly allow me to impart another.Turns out, dealing with this*:Is immeasurably more enjoyable than dealing with this†:* My cankles on Disney’s Animal Kingdom†Actual toddler tantrum witnessed in EpcotThe More You Know™

i have a thing for babies

{copyright World Vision, photographer Matthew Paul Turner}In any crowd, my eyes find them. I flirt and I peek-a-boo behind their mother, they hide their faces in her neck, giggling. It is in my genetic makeup, I’m sure of it. The cheeks, the large eyes, the nubbin chins, the pursed lips, the uncreased skin, the chubby limbs. O, my heart.I must smile and connect with them; I long to affirm their beauty and tell them that they are loved.{copyright World Vision, photographer Matthew Paul Turner}On our plane from Dubai, there was a girl OBrother’s age a couple of rows ahead of me. She slept on her parents’ shoulders for most of the 13 hour flight, but when we arrived she perked up. “Dadadadada!”I looked around for OBrother. It sounded just exactly like him.I smile at their whines and cries, empathizing with their parents. I quite literally ache to touch or hold one, but the right opportunity hasn’t arisen. I pray that it will.{copyright World Vision, photographer Matthew Paul Turner}And like I do with OBrother (and OBoy), I want the best for them. I am processing this week that my boys will grow up feeling that the future is theirs to shape but so many children around the world, so many babies I will see this week, do not feel that way. They do not feel that way yet. Imagine the affirmation that comes from someone connecting with them – in a crowd, in a letter – and telling them that they are valued. They are loved. They have a future. That is what I am here to tell babies this week through my smiles and for O, through my sponsorship. Will you tell a child that, too, through World Vision child sponsorship?

Andrew Martin Scott 2010 Half-Frame Calendar..

1cal-shadow-fold600pxl

Wow, can you believe 2010 is in two months?! It seems so crazy to me! My buddy Andrew co-owner of Needles + Pen's just published his yearly Half-Frame Calendar chocked full of, you guessed it, half-frame photographs. Are you too shy to ask what a half-frame camera is? Oh look at you, you're so cute! Well don't fret, Andrew does a great job of explaining it:

"A half-frame camera is a semi-obsolete device (made mostly in the 1960s& 1970s) that advances each shot only half of the distance that anormal format camera would. The result allows for two shots per frameinstead of one and presto-change-o! - a 36 exposure roll offilm instantly becomes 72 exposure roll. The true beauty of half-framephotography lies in the phenomenon of the ‘happy accident,’ theserendipitous effect of two random images being placed next to oneanother on a single print."

I've seen lots of Andrew's photographs in person and they're truly serene and lovely. You can get yourself, or your bff (cause everybody loves a calender) a copy of Andrew's calendar here.
